About BlackUC

Our Vision

We are committed to moving the University of Cincinnati progressively forward into its third century with a radically more culturally inclusive vision that embraces the presence of African American students, faculty, and executive level administrators at the level of Dean and above. Additionally we will work toward moving the University to cultivate Black Intellectual potential from Cincinnati schools, and to be a resource for the surrounding African American community.

The Knot

The Knot, an Adinkra symbol from the West African country of Ghana, is a symbol of both wisdom and reconciliation.  It symbolizes the idea that the wise one has the capacity to choose the best means to attain a goal.  Part of our goal is to reconcile or the process of finding a way to merge our ideas of inclusiveness into a structure just for all.

The Black Unity Coalition is a grassroots and campus organization founded on August 23rd, 2015 in light of the UC police murder of Sam DuBose. BlackUC is composed of Black faculty, students and staff at the University of Cincinnati as well as the Black business community and the Black community that surrounds the University of Cincinnati.
